Where Peace and Justice Meet
Turning real faith into real action for real people
Our Mission
At Just Peace Ministries, our mission is to build a world where all people can live free from fear, and where justice, healing, and peace shape our community. Grounded in the sacred call to seek justice and protect human dignity, we confront the root causes of violence—both in our neighborhoods and in the systems that govern them.
We believe peace is more than the absence of harm; it is the presence of equity, safety, and care. Inspired by the vision found in Micah 4:4—“Everyone will sit under their own vine and under their own fig tree, and no one will make them afraid”—we are working toward a future where everyone’s basic needs are met, and every person is free to thrive.
Our Initiatives
Heal The Healers
A space and support for frontline workers—violence interrupters, teachers, first responders, faith leaders, and community advocates—to engage in their own healing. Through therapy, movement, breathwork, art, prayer, somatic practices, and other wellness modalities, we support those who support others. Because when we heal ourselves, we heal our communities.
Peace Walks
PeaceWalks is a citywide network of faith communities, grassroots organizations, and civic agencies that work together to prevent gun violence through weekly community walks. These gatherings address the emotional, spiritual, and material needs of neighborhoods most impacted by both community and police violence.
Community Report Card
Developed in partnership with the University of Maryland and Johns Hopkins University, the Community Report Card combines research with community voice to ensure that strategies are not only evidence-based but people-centered and effective.
Fund Peace NOW Campaign
The Fund Peace NOW Campaign is a call to action for the District of Columbia to invest in proven, people-first strategies for preventing violence. We advocate for a coordinated effort between government, philanthropy, business, and communities to support healing and safety at every level.
Peace Place
Peace Place is a visionary hub for healing, creativity, and collaboration. It will house a business incubator, coworking space, affordable and low income green housing, community center for peacemakers, wellness practitioners, social entrepreneurs, and justice advocates.
Peace Place is also home to youth programs, healing circles, and affordable housing initiatives—because the work of peace must be rooted in place. This is where ideas grow, partnerships form, and deep transformation begins.
About Us
Just Peace Ministries is a faith-grounded, community-centered organization working to uproot the structural causes of violence and create conditions where peace and justice can take root. We are especially focused on ending community gun violence and the harms caused by state systems.
We believe that real peace is impossible without justice for those most impacted by systemic oppression. Our work centers healing, organizing, and advocacy—and our vision is a city where everyone has what they need to live fully and freely.
Our Vision
We imagine a future where no one lives in fear, where every person is valued, and where safety is shared by all. We want to see homicides and nonfatal shootings cut in half by 50% by 2028 and by down by 70% by 2032. Our vision is inspired by the prophetic promise in Micah 4:4:
“Everyone will sit under their own vine and under their own fig tree, and no one will make them afraid.”
This is not just a dream—it is the future we are building, one relationship, one act of healing, and one policy at a time.
Our Impact
“As a therapist, I'm so used to holding space for others that it's difficult to let go and receive. During Heal the Healers, I initially found myself wanting to jump in and offer support — but when I chose to be still and fully receive, the experience was breathtaking. From the soothing chimes of Pastor D’s water stick, to the grounding support during my stretch session, to the transformative energy of Thai bodywork, every element poured into me exactly what I didn’t know I needed. Breathwork and dance brought out a joy I hadn’t felt in ages — free, unselfconscious, alive. On a long Thursday, this circle didn’t just restore me; it revived me. I left refreshed, rebalanced, and ready to serve again.”
